Wow, you will love the variation of terrain and scenery of this ride. We started with a gentle up and down along the coastal line from Motril to Rabita before heading inland towards Albuñol. The rise is gentle but long and it didn't stop at Albuñol. Contrary, the gradient picks up significantly for the next 10km to Albondon. In this little town, we stopped to refill our water bottles and had another 600m of vertical ascent ahead of us. Once at the top of the climb you can enjoy a stunning view over the Sierra Nevada range. A sweeping downhill on the other side and we made our way back towards Torvizcon. Only 14km but a constant up and down which makes fatigued legs hurt even more. After Torvizcon the road has a few more gentle climbs followed by a screaming downhill. A quick right and we were climbing again towards Orgiva, followed by a further climb into Lanjaron- a town where the natural water is so good that it is manufactured. So make sure you fill up your water bottles at the fountain in the town. After Lanjaron we descended via the old National Highway back to Salobrena. An epic and challenging ride but it gives visiting cyclists the perfect introduction what this region has to offer!
