Pittsburgh’s Northside has 7 healthy Ride stations, and you can visit each of them in about 45 minutes. We started at the CCAC Allegheny Campus station near Brighton Rd and West Park
From there, we rode toward the Carnegie Science Center, then made a left then a right turn to the next station, Across from Stage AE. This stop has the closest access to the Science Center, Heinz Field, and Northside T Station. The next station is near the bike way that connects the North shore to Point State Park. Instead of using the bridge, we passed PNC park on our way to the next station, with a beautiful view of the Allegheny River and quick access to the Northside Trail.
We took the trail and headed east, under the Andy Warhol and Rachel Carson bridges, continuing to the Heinz lofts. The River Ave healthy ride station is also very convenient to the Northside trail, the Strip District, and Washington’s Landing.
Backtracking down the Northside Trail until the Warhol Bridge, we carefully merge into traffic to head north through the Allegheny Commons, until we get to Federal St and North Ave station. This station is convenient to the Park, Aviary, and restaurants like El Burro, Carmi’s Express, and Crazy Mocha.
The last station is up a slight incline, near Randyland, in the heart of the Mexican War Streets. We stopped by Commonplace Coffee as we headed toward Brighton Rd. There is a lovely garden across the street to enjoy your beverage.
Finally, we used Brighton Rd to return to the CCAC Allegheny station. Several cars aggressively and too closely drove near us, making us thankful to remember that we are getting a parking protected bike lane by the end of summer. The ride was completed in 90 degree weather, making us more than deserving of a treat at the nearby Happy Day Dessert Factory. If you follow this route, let us know where you stop.
