Story

One of Colorado's most iconic rides, the seven mile climb from Aspen Highlands to Maroon Lake features one of the most dramatic turns you'll make on a bike. Near the end of the climb the bells will reveal themselves in stunning fashion. With car restrictions and shuttle service for hikers, the road is very quiet to the turnaround and offers some of the best views around.

After your done snapping photos of the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness Area, return to Aspen for a snack and or drinks if you need and continue east on Highway 82 to the lower reaches of Independence Pass at the Difficult Campground. If you're really feeling fit and feisty, make a charge for the summit of the pass and enjoy the descent back to Aspen that has been the highlight of many pro races in Colorado.

The out-and-back to the Bells is about 17-miles from downtown, so any extra riding after that is up to you with the out-and-back nature of the valley.
