A Madison classic that takes you around the 2nd, as well as 2nd largest, lake of the Yahara River Chain - Lake Monona. The route is primarily bike path, as well as some quiet residential streets. You will pass through several popular Madison neighborhoods including Marquette (Williamson St area) and SASY (Schenk-Atwood-Starkweather-Yahara) to the North, Eastmorland and Lake Edge to the East, Waunona to the South, and Bay Creek to the West. You'll also spend a portion of the ride in the neighboring city of Monona. Along the way you'll catch frequent views of the Wisconsin State Capitol, ride past the Frank Lloyd Wright inspired Monona Terrace, and pass a variety of parks, and more than a few places to grab food, drink, or a sweet treat. The route is easy to follow as it follows the "official" Lake Loop route. You'll find signage, as well as painted street markings for "Lake Loop" to guide you on your ride. There are several options to deviate from the official route - whether it's to avoid some hills or stop for a treat. The ease of exploring so many great neighborhoods is one of the best parts of this route.
